2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has
passed away; behold, the new has come.
We are used to celebrating that which is new. From new years to new jobs to
newborn children, we have become accustomed to rejoicing when confronted
with newness.
For Christians, new life begins when God regenerates us. Although we are
dead in our sins, God breathes new life into us, much like He breathed into
the lifeless clay and brought Adam to life. As sons and daughters of Adam,
our very existence is sustained by God. But as His children, we have been
granted a life that goes beyond this realm. Indeed, when this present world
fades away, we will remain, alive together with Christ for eternity.
As we await the glorious day of Christ’s return, we are to be celebrating
the new life He has given us through His death and resurrection. As always,
the Word of God says it best. See how Paul described this appreciation of
Christ’s work in Titus 3:3-7:
“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to
various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated
by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness
of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in
righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of
regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we
might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
Thanks to Christ, the new has come. Let us rejoice and be glad! |
