Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
For centuries, the majority of humanity believed that the earth was flat.
Suggest to any scholar of their day that it might be round, and they would
adamantly inform you of your ignorance and possible insanity. You might be
excommunicated from a church, you would certainly be talked down about, and
you would have to defend your position to deafened ears. To entertain the
notion that the earth was anything but flat would only invite ridicule and
scorn.
So why might one suggest that the earth is round in the face of such
hardship? Why would a person of good standing in that culture risk their
reputation to make such a point? Because the earth wasn’t flat, nor has it
ever been. This world has always been round, and even though thousands upon
thousands of people thought differently for thousands of years, not once did
it actually alter the shape of this planet.
It is comforting to know that Truth does not change based on our perception
of it. Something isn’t true because a certain number of people believe it,
because we can have a full understanding of it, or even because it feels
right. It’s true because it’s constant. It never changes. It comes directly
from the source of all things good and pure, and we can trust in God’s Word
because God Himself is trustworthy.
Which is why Jesus made it crystal clear that He is the Way, the Truth, and
the Life. Only the power of Christ holds fast when all else has faded away.
When friends vanish, feelings betray, and reason abandons, Truth will
remain. |
