Parkwood Baptist Church

The idea for a city-wide crusade sprang from meetings between four pastors of churches in the south Louisville community. As these men met to encourage and pray for one another, they were impressed with a desire to see their fellowships work together to have a greater influence on their city than any one church could on its own.

Although it wasn't known at the time, the 2007 Crusade was to be the final installment in the series! The entire week was full of all that people had come to expect from the Crusade: plenty of fellowship, praise-filled music, and powerful messages.

It was also an honor to welcome back one of the Crusade's founding pastors, Dr. Shawn Merrithew. He was at Carlisle Avenue Baptist when the idea for the Crusade was first put into motion, but had since followed the Lord's call to Alabama.

Even though the amphitheater crusades have come to an end, the Faith for Today, Hope for Tomorrow vision of churches joining together will continue in an exciting new direction in 2008. Look for an announcement soon!

Thanks to everyone who supported the Crusade throughout its six-year run with their prayers, attendance, volunteer efforts, and by inviting friends to hear the message of Christ in a clear and powerful way!

The 2006 Crusade continued the tradition of meeting in the Iroquois Amphitheater and was supported by 14 churches from the South Louisville community!

Although hot weather on Sunday and rain during the week threatened to dampen the spirits of those involved, there was a good turnout each night, and more importantly, truths from God's Word were given in the messages. Crusade services featured worship led by musicians (choir, band, and orchestral) made up of members from several of the participating churches.

The scheduled speaker for Wednesday night was Ron Archer, but his flight was not permitted to take off from Miami due to the storms caused by Tropical Storm Ernesto, and he was unable to attend. With only a few hours notice, Rick Bowden (the pastor of Ormsby Heights Baptist Church) filled in and preached the final message of the 2006 Crusade.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Crusade with their prayers, attendance, volunteer efforts, and by inviting friends to hear the message of Christ in a unique setting! Please begin praying for next year's event!

Faith for Today, Hope for Tomorrow :: August 28-31, 2005With the vision to grow and expand the influence of the crusade still firmly in the minds of the churches involved, additional invitations to become sponsor churches were sent out to the community, and 7 fellowships responded with a pledge for their support. They were: Beechmont Baptist, Beth Haven Baptist, Brookview Baptist, Cloverleaf Baptist, Mount Calvary Baptist, Shively Baptist, and Temple of Faith Baptist.

An emphasis to reach families, teenagers, and young adults was made with the addition of a Saturday afternoon "Family Day", complete with free food and games. Krymson, a local band, had a free concert in the Amphitheater, and a service was held immediately following. Crusade services featured Tommy Hellams leading the worship and musicians (choir, band, and orchestral) made up of members from several churches.

A group of five speakers was brought in from around the nation, from varying backgrounds and areas of ministry.

With the Amphitheater still the ideal location for reaching the south end of Louisville, the crusade planners decided to move the crusade to a slightly earlier time of the year in order to enjoy warmer weather. A group of four speakers, comprised of both local and national personalities, was assembled to bring the messages.

As the crusade grew, the four original church sponsors welcomed Hazelwood Baptist to the team. In order to reach a larger audience, the crusade also moved to the newly renovated Iroquois Park Amphitheater. The four pastors who had originated the idea of the crusade also served as each night's keynote speaker. A prayer-walking service was held the Saturday before the crusade began at the Amphitheater. During the crusade, worship was led by Marshall Kellam, and featured a choir and band comprised of members from each of the churches involved.

Jerry Drace EVANGELIST   The crusade got its start in a tent on the property of Rockford Lane Baptist Church. It was called "Faith for Today, Hope for Tomorrow", a name that would stick in the years to come. Featuring nightly messages by Jerry Drace and music by Ken & Lois Holland, hundreds attended and the crusade was deemed a success. Yet the vision for something larger remained...
