Road to the Resurrection
(Part 3 of 14) __________________________________________________________________________ Time has elapsed from Genesis 3 (last Sunday's message) to Genesis 6...but how could things have gone wrong so fast? It goes from "it is good" to "I am grieved" in quick order. 1. The mess We are told to live in order to please God, not grieve Him [1 Thessalonians 4:1]. Yet the inclination of our hearts is evil--all the time. 2. The makeover God doesn't choose to 'do over' but to 'makeover'--humanity is given a fresh start (similar to how we are reborn in Christ). Noah is not perfect: he is a son of Adam (Rom 5:12) but he is righteous (Gen 6:22). God addresses universal corruption by His righteous wrath (see 2 Peter 3). However, God mercifully allowed Noah a way to escape impending doom and extinction. 3. The message God intends to have a people in a land where He will dwell among them (see Gen 1 & Rev 21). These people will come into this land by grace, through faith (Eph 2:8-10). Noah is not our hope; God's grace is our hope, revealed to us in Jesus Christ. God's wrath will one day be poured out on sin; Jesus is the escape. God's promise to His people extends from this life into eternity. |
